What connecting YouTube Analytics to ChatGPT actually means

You ask ChatGPT about your YouTube channel and get a real answer, pulled from your actual account, in seconds. Type "@Data Bloo how did the channel do last month" and it reads your numbers, draws a small dashboard in the thread and tells you which videos carried it. No screenshots, no scrolling through the app. The connection runs through the Data Bloo plugin in ChatGPT's own directory, takes about a minute, and it's read-only.

Google publishes no official YouTube MCP. The community servers that exist ask you to stand up a Google Cloud project, create your own OAuth client, approve three scopes and run a server yourself. Data Bloo skips all of it: install from the directory, sign in once, ask in plain English.

Why connect YouTube Analytics to ChatGPT

Stop exporting YouTube Studio reports. Start asking.

The same YouTube channel you already track in your Data Studio reports, now answering questions in a chat.

Ask, get instant answers

"Which videos drove the most shares last week?" ChatGPT pulls the numbers and explains them.

A dashboard, not a wall of text

Views, engagement and subscriber growth come back as tiles and a video table, drawn inside the thread.

Client-ready summaries

"Turn last month's YouTube into a channel report." Paste it into Slack, email or a doc.

Diagnose a flat month

"Why did views drop after the 8th?" It looks across videos, traffic sources and dates and explains it.

Blend beyond YouTube

Line organic views up against Google Ads spend, Instagram or your store revenue in one answer.

Connect once, use everywhere

The same account you linked for Data Studio is instantly available to ChatGPT, zero duplicate setup.

Supported data sources

YouTube Analytics, plus every other connector

Already connected in Data Bloo? It's instantly available to ChatGPT, connect once, use everywhere.

Pick your route

Three ways to connect YouTube Analytics to ChatGPT

They solve different problems. Here's the honest version so you don't set up the wrong one.

For reporting

A connector like Data Bloo

One-click install from ChatGPT's directory, sign in once, ask in plain English. No developer app, no approval, nothing to host. Read-only, blends YouTube with your other channels, and the same connection feeds your Data Studio reports.

✓ Free to start · ~1 minute

A community MCP server

Google publishes no official YouTube MCP, but community projects wrap the Analytics and Data APIs. Free and open source. The trade-off: a Google Cloud project, your own OAuth client, three scopes and a server you run yourself.

→ Best if you live in the terminal

A manual export

Screenshot the analytics tab or export what YouTube Studio lets you, then upload it into the chat. Free, and it works once. Then you do it again next month, and the numbers stop being comparable.

✕ Breaks down past a one-off

Data Bloo vs a community MCP vs a manual export

Data Bloo Community MCP Manual export
Setup ~1 min, one click Developer app, scope approval, OAuth New export each time
Reads your data Yes, live Yes, live A snapshot
Changes your account No (read-only) Varies by project No
Blends other channels Yes, 15+ connectors No, YouTube only By hand
Draws a dashboard in chat Yes Text answers Text answers
Feeds Data Studio Yes, same connection No No
Price Free to start Free, open source Free
Upkeep None You host, update & re-auth it Redo it each time

The bottom line: if you're happy shipping a developer app through approval and hosting a server, the community route is free and works. If you'd rather skip the setup tax entirely, ask in plain English, and see YouTube next to the rest of your marketing, that's Data Bloo.

The honest bit

When to use a community MCP instead

Data Bloo isn't the right tool for everyone. If you want raw Data API access and you're happy shipping a Google Cloud project and your own OAuth client, the community servers are free, open source, and you can read and change the code.

The trade-off is everything around it. You create a Google Cloud project, configure an OAuth consent screen, approve three separate read scopes, and keep a server running. And they only see YouTube, so they can't tell you whether the views they're reporting turned into store revenue, or how the channel compares with your paid campaigns. That's the job Data Bloo does.

Why Data Bloo

Read-only safety and your dashboards, in one connection

Every other route to YouTube analytics in ChatGPT asks you to become a developer first, or to keep exporting from Studio. Data Bloo asks for neither. It reads, it reports, and the exact same connection already powering your Data Studio dashboards now answers questions in ChatGPT.

It can't touch your account

All seven tools are read-only. ChatGPT pulls and analyzes your channel performance, but it can't publish, edit a title or reply to a comment. No safety checklist to memorize, because there's nothing to switch off.

One connection, two surfaces

The YouTube Analytics source you built for Data Studio is the same one ChatGPT reads. No second setup, no second bill, and the numbers ChatGPT quotes always match the dashboards you send clients. It's the one thing a self-hosted, YouTube-only server structurally can't give you.

What you need

1A Data Bloo account with your YouTube channel connected. Free tier is fine.
2A Business account on YouTube. The Analytics API only returns data for channels you own or manage.
3A ChatGPT account. Web or the desktop app, the steps are identical.
That's it. No developer app, no scope approval, no server URL, no API key.

How to connect YouTube Analytics to ChatGPT

Seven clicks, start to finish. It works the same on ChatGPT web and the desktop app.

1
Connect YouTube Analytics in Data Bloo

If you already use Data Bloo for your Data Studio reports, skip this, your account is ready. If not, sign up free and link your YouTube channel once.

2
Open the Data Bloo listing

Jump straight to Data Bloo in the ChatGPT plugin directory. You'll see sample prompts and the list of supported sources, YouTube Analytics among them.

Open Data Bloo in ChatGPT →
3
Click Install plugin

The black Install plugin button sits at the top right of the listing, next to the Data Bloo name.

4
Sign in with Data Bloo

ChatGPT opens Data Bloo's sign-in page. Log in with your Data Bloo account (or the email you use for your connectors) and approve read access.

5
Click Try in chat

Once installed, the button flips from Install plugin to Try in chat. Click it to jump straight into a new conversation.

6
Mention @Data Bloo and ask

Try: "@Data Bloo Which videos drove the most views and engagement last month?"

7
Pick the account, get the analysis

If you have more than one account, ChatGPT asks which to analyze. Answer, and it returns a rendered dashboard plus a written read of what moved and why.

Confirm it works: in a fresh chat, type "@Data Bloo list all the YouTube channels I have connected." If your account comes back in the list, you're connected.

Under the hood

Seven read-only tools, and nothing to install

You ask in plain language, ChatGPT picks the tool. The usual path for a YouTube question: get_connector_accounts → list_fields → query_data.

Tool
What it does
get_user
Your plan, access and how many calls you have left.
list_data_sources
Every connector available to you, YouTube Analytics included.
get_connector_accounts
Your linked YouTube channels, and the IDs to query.
list_fields
The valid metrics and dimensions for YouTube Analytics.
query_data
The actual pull: metrics and dimensions over a date range.
list_accounts
Every connected account across every connector, in one call.
get_dates
Turns "last month" into the exact start and end dates to query.

Plus a built-in skill. The plugin ships with data-bloo-channel-analysis, so ChatGPT doesn't just fetch rows, it knows how a channel manager reads them: which video carried the month, where the views came from, and whether attention is holding or falling away.

Read-only, always. ChatGPT can pull and analyze your YouTube Analytics, it can never publish a video, edit a title or reply to a comment.

What ChatGPT actually gives you back

Three prompts and the kind of answer ChatGPT returns once YouTube Analytics is connected through Data Bloo, numbers, then a plain-language read.

"@Data Bloo Pull video views, engagement and subscriber growth for last month."

ChatGPT: 842,400 video views, 58,120 engagements and 4,180 subscribers gained, at a 38% average view duration percentage. Average view duration was 4:21 across 22 videos.

The read: views grew faster than subscribers again, so the views are coming from browse and suggested rather than your existing audience.
"@Data Bloo Which videos drove the most shares?"

ChatGPT: Top three by shares, the behind-the-scenes clip (4,120), the "what nobody tells you" video (2,880) and the customer reaction (1,940). Shares are up 41% month over month.

The read: shares hold attention far past the channel average. All three are tightly edited and front-loaded, which is the format to publish more of.
"@Data Bloo Where is my traffic coming from?"

ChatGPT: Browse features account for 78% of views, suggested videos 11%, channel pages 7% and YouTube search 4%. Search traffic is up 62% month over month from a small base.

The read: the algorithm is doing the work. The search growth is small but worth watching, it means people are starting to search for you by name.

Troubleshooting

Common issues and fixes

ChatGPT answers without using your data

Start the message with @Data Bloo. Without the mention it may answer from general knowledge instead of reaching for the plugin, and you'll get a confident, generic reply that has nothing to do with your account.

It says it can't see your accounts

You're likely not signed in yet, or YouTube Analytics isn't connected in Data Bloo. Ask "@Data Bloo list the accounts I have connected." If it comes back empty, open Data Bloo, confirm your YouTube Analytics source is connected, then try again.

The numbers don't match YouTube Studio exactly

YouTube Studio and the Analytics API finalise metrics on different windows, and recent days keep updating, revenue later still. For trends, comparisons and reporting the Data Bloo pull is solid; for today's numbers, give YouTube time to settle.

A breakdown query comes back empty

Some YouTube fields only combine with each other. Age group and Gender return only alongside Viewer percentage, the retention fields need a single-video filter, and the channel totals are all-time figures that never split by date. Ask for one of those groups on its own.

ChatGPT won't take an action on your account

That's on purpose. The connection is read-only, so nothing in YouTube can be changed from a chat. If you need to change something, do it in YouTube Studio itself.

Good to know

Query notes & FAQs

@Mention the plugin. Starting with @Data Bloo is the surest way to make ChatGPT reach for your data rather than guess.
One breakdown dimension per call. For multiple breakdowns, ask ChatGPT to run separate queries and combine them after.
Recent days settle late. YouTube keeps finalizing recent data, so yesterday's numbers can shift slightly, and revenue lags further.
Confirm fields first. Field IDs vary per connector. ChatGPT usually lists fields before querying to avoid rejected requests.

Connect your YouTube channel in Data Bloo, then open Plugins in ChatGPT, search for Data Bloo, click Install plugin and sign in. Ask your first question with @Data Bloo. About a minute end to end, with no Google Cloud project.

It's free to start, no credit card. The free tier includes plugin access with usage limits; paid plans raise the limits and add more connected accounts.

No. The connection is read-only, so ChatGPT can read and analyze your performance but can never post, delete or comment. Publishing stays where it belongs.

Three read-only scopes: yt-analytics.readonly for the reports, youtube.readonly for video and channel metadata like titles and thumbnails, and yt-analytics-monetary.readonly if you want revenue. None of them can change your channel.

No. Data Bloo is a listed plugin in ChatGPT's directory, so installing is one click and a sign-in. A server URL is only needed for clients without a directory, like Claude, and that's covered on our YouTube Analytics to Claude page.

No. This one covers organic account and video analytics. Paid campaign data comes through the separate Google Ads connector, and you can ask about both in the same conversation.

Yes. Connect each account in Data Bloo and name the client in your prompt. If you don't specify, ChatGPT asks which account to analyze first.

Yes. Ask ChatGPT to compare YouTube views against Instagram reach, Google Ads spend or your store revenue, and it pulls one blended answer.

The Data Bloo plugin ships its own interface, so results render as KPI tiles and a table inside the chat. The written analysis still appears underneath, and you can ask for a plain table any time.
