What connecting Microsoft Ads to ChatGPT actually means

You ask ChatGPT about your Microsoft Ads and get a real answer, pulled from your actual account, in seconds. Type "@Data Bloo how did Bing do last month" and it reads your numbers, draws a small dashboard in the thread and tells you where the money went. No exports, no report builder. The connection runs through the Data Bloo plugin in ChatGPT's own directory, takes about a minute, and it's read-only.

Microsoft has shipped an official MCP for its advertising platform, and it can create and change campaigns. If that's what you want, use it. If you want to read, analyze and report on Microsoft Ads alongside Google Ads and everything else you run, and feed the same data to your Data Studio dashboards, that's Data Bloo.

Why connect Microsoft Ads to ChatGPT

Stop exporting the Microsoft UI. Start asking.

The same Microsoft Ads account you already trust for your Data Studio reports, now answering questions in a chat.

Ask, get instant answers

"Which keywords converted cheapest last week?" ChatGPT pulls the numbers and explains them.

A dashboard, not a wall of text

Cost, clicks and conversions come back as tiles and a campaign table, drawn inside the thread.

Client-ready summaries

"Turn last month's Microsoft Ads into an executive summary." Paste it into Slack, email or a doc.

Find the headroom

"Where is impression share leaving money on the table?" It ranks the campaigns losing the most volume.

Compare against Google

Line Microsoft spend up against Google Ads on the same keywords in one answer, the comparison everyone actually wants.

Connect once, use everywhere

The same account you linked for Data Studio is instantly available to ChatGPT, zero duplicate setup.

Three ways to connect Microsoft Ads to ChatGPT

They solve different problems. Here's the honest version so you don't set up the wrong one.

For reporting

A connector like Data Bloo

One-click install from ChatGPT's directory, sign in once, ask in plain English. No developer token, no app registration, nothing to host. Read-only, blends Microsoft Ads with your other channels, and the same connection feeds your Data Studio reports.

✓ Free to start · ~1 minute

Microsoft's official MCP

Microsoft publishes its own MCP for the advertising platform, and it can create and change campaigns, not just read them. Free, and it comes straight from the platform. It's Microsoft-only, and the setup is aimed at developers.

→ Best if you want ChatGPT to run the ads

A manual export

Export a report from the Microsoft Advertising UI, save the file, upload it into the chat. Free, and it works once. Then you do it again next week, separately for every account.

✕ Breaks down past a one-off

The bottom line: if you want ChatGPT to manage campaigns, Microsoft's own MCP does that. If you want ChatGPT to read and report on your search spend, with Microsoft next to Google in the same answer, that's Data Bloo.

The honest bit

When to use Microsoft's official MCP instead

Data Bloo isn't the right tool for everyone, and Microsoft's own MCP is genuinely good at something Data Bloo deliberately doesn't do: making changes. It can create campaigns, adjust bids and pause ads from the chat. It's free, and it comes straight from the platform. If what you want is an AI that runs your ads, use it.

Where it stops is everything outside Microsoft. It sees Microsoft Ads and nothing else, which is a particular problem here, because the question everyone asks about Bing is "how does it compare with Google?" A Microsoft-only tool structurally can't answer that. It also does nothing for the client dashboards you already send. That's the job Data Bloo does.

Why Data Bloo

Read-only safety and your dashboards, in one connection

The write-capable tools make you choose: hand an AI the keys to your ad account, or keep exporting by hand. Data Bloo doesn't ask you to choose. It reads, it reports, and the exact same connection already powering your Data Studio dashboards now answers questions in ChatGPT.

It can't touch your account

All seven tools are read-only. ChatGPT pulls and analyzes your campaigns, but it can't change a bid, move a budget or pause an ad group, so there's no wrong instruction that could put spend at risk. No safety checklist to memorize, because there's nothing to switch off.

One connection, two surfaces

The Microsoft Ads source you built for Data Studio is the same one ChatGPT reads. No second setup, no second bill, and the numbers ChatGPT quotes always match the dashboards you send clients. It's the one thing a Microsoft-only, write-first tool structurally can't give you.

What you need

1A Data Bloo account with your Microsoft Ads account connected. Free tier is fine.
2Access to the account in Microsoft Advertising. Viewer access is enough.
3A ChatGPT account. Web or the desktop app, the steps are identical.
That's it. No developer token, no app registration, no server URL, no API key.

ChatGPT opens Data Bloo's sign-in page. Log in with your Data Bloo account (or the email you use for your connectors) and approve read access.

5

6
Mention @Data Bloo and ask

Try: "@Data Bloo How did Microsoft Ads perform last month, and which keywords earned their budget?"

7
Pick the account, get the analysis

If you have more than one account, ChatGPT asks which to analyze. Answer, and it returns a rendered dashboard plus a written read of what moved and why.

Confirm it works: in a fresh chat, type "@Data Bloo list all the Microsoft Ads accounts I have connected." If your account comes back in the list, you're connected.

Under the hood

Seven read-only tools, why your spend stays untouched

You ask in plain language, ChatGPT picks the tool. The usual path for a Microsoft Ads question: get_connector_accounts → list_fields → query_data.

Tool
What it does
get_user
Your plan, access and how many calls you have left.
list_data_sources
Every connector available to you, Microsoft Ads included.
get_connector_accounts
Your linked Microsoft Ads accounts, and the IDs to query.
list_fields
The valid metrics and dimensions for Microsoft Ads.
query_data
The actual pull: metrics and dimensions over a date range.
list_accounts
Every connected account across every connector, in one call.
get_dates
Turns "last month" into the exact start and end dates to query.

Plus a built-in skill. The plugin ships with data-bloo-channel-analysis, so ChatGPT doesn't just fetch rows, it knows how a PPC manager reads them: which campaign earned its budget, where impression share is leaking volume, and what to check next.

Read-only, always. ChatGPT can pull and analyze your Microsoft Ads data, it can never change a bid, a budget or a campaign setting.

What ChatGPT actually gives you back

Three prompts and the kind of answer ChatGPT returns once Microsoft Ads is connected through Data Bloo, numbers, then a plain-language read.

"@Data Bloo Pull cost, clicks and conversions for the last 30 days."

ChatGPT: €7,840 spent for 12,410 clicks and 386 conversions, a €20.31 cost per conversion at a €0.63 CPC. Impression share sits at 62%.

The read: clicks are cheap and conversions are healthy, but you're only showing for six in ten eligible searches. There's volume left on the table.
"@Data Bloo Where is impression share costing me volume?"

ChatGPT: Three campaigns below 50% impression share. Generic – Search at 41% (lost 38% to budget, 21% to rank), Competitor at 44% and Long-tail at 48%.

The read: Generic is budget-capped, not rank-capped. That one is a spend decision, not an optimisation problem.
"@Data Bloo How does this compare with Google Ads on the same terms?"

ChatGPT: Microsoft: €0.63 CPC, €20.31 cost per conversion, 3.11% conversion rate. Google: €0.91 CPC, €28.72 cost per conversion, 2.68% conversion rate. Microsoft converts 16% better at 31% lower CPC, on a fifth of the volume.

The read: Microsoft is the cheaper channel and it isn't close. The constraint is available volume, not efficiency.

Troubleshooting

Common issues and fixes

ChatGPT answers without using your data

Start the message with @Data Bloo. Without the mention it may answer from general knowledge instead of reaching for the plugin, and you'll get a confident, generic reply that has nothing to do with your account.

It says it can't see your accounts

You're likely not signed in yet, or Microsoft Ads isn't connected in Data Bloo. Ask "@Data Bloo list the accounts I have connected." If it comes back empty, open Data Bloo, confirm your Microsoft Ads source is connected, then try again.

The numbers don't match the Microsoft UI exactly

Microsoft attributes conversions over a window that keeps updating, and your account timezone shifts which day a click lands in. For trends, comparisons and reporting the Data Bloo pull is solid; for the last few hours, the Microsoft UI is freshest.

Conversion columns come back empty

That's usually UET tag or conversion goal setup, not the connection. If the account doesn't record conversions, there's nothing for the connector to return. Ask for cost, clicks and impressions instead while you check it.

ChatGPT won't take an action on your account

That's on purpose. The connection is read-only, so nothing in Microsoft Ads can be changed from a chat. If you need to change something, do it in Microsoft Ads itself.

Good to know

Query notes & FAQs

@Mention the plugin. Starting with @Data Bloo is the surest way to make ChatGPT reach for your data rather than guess.
One breakdown dimension per call. For multiple breakdowns, ask ChatGPT to run separate queries and combine them after.
Attribution keeps moving. Microsoft updates conversions inside its attribution window, so recent days settle after the fact.
%Impression share lags. Share metrics can take longer to finalise than cost and clicks, so very recent days may read low.

Connect your Microsoft Ads account in Data Bloo, then open Plugins in ChatGPT, search for Data Bloo, click Install plugin and sign in. Ask your first question with @Data Bloo. About a minute end to end.

It's free to start, no credit card. The free tier includes plugin access with usage limits; paid plans raise the limits and add more connected accounts.

No. All seven Data Bloo tools are strictly read-only. ChatGPT can pull and analyze your campaigns but can never change a bid, a budget or any campaign setting.

Yes. Bing Ads was renamed Microsoft Advertising, and the connector covers the same accounts. If you still call it Bing Ads, you're in the right place.

No. Data Bloo is a listed plugin in ChatGPT's directory, so installing is one click and a sign-in. A server URL is only needed for clients without a directory, like Claude, and that's covered on our Microsoft Ads to Claude page.

Yes, and it's the main reason to use a connector rather than Microsoft's own MCP. With both connected in Data Bloo, "compare cost per conversion on Microsoft vs Google for these keywords" is a single question.

Yes. Connect each account in Data Bloo and name the client in your prompt. If you don't specify, ChatGPT asks which account to analyze first.

Yes, they report as campaigns like any other, with the same cost, click and conversion metrics.

The Data Bloo plugin ships its own interface, so results render as KPI tiles and a table inside the chat. The written analysis still appears underneath, and you can ask for a plain table any time.
